Szekszárd
Szekszárd is a Hungarian wine district with distinctive traditions of Kadarka, Kékfrankos and Bikavér red blends.
Kadarka and Kékfrankos provide useful local reference points, while international red varieties also appear in producers’ ranges. Bikavér is a blended red-wine tradition rather than a grape name. Szekszárd’s version has its own origin and should be explored alongside, rather than assumed identical to, examples from other Hungarian districts.
A Kadarka, a Kékfrankos and a Bikavér form an informative small comparison. They reveal the difference between single-variety wines and a regional blend without requiring a broad tasting of the whole country. The producer and particular cuvée remain important guides to weight, maturation and intended drinking age.
