Moscato Giallo
The style profiled here is a off-dry, medium-bodied white Moscato Giallo wine: golden muscat, orange peel, dry to sweet. Typical alcohol is 11 to 13.5%. Serve it at 7 to 9 °C.
Also called Yellow Muscat.
The grape
Moscato Giallo is an aromatic white grape particularly associated with northeastern Italy, including Trentino. Its Muscat-like perfume makes the aroma easy to recognise, but that does not mean every wine is sweet. Producers make dry still expressions as well as sweeter or sparkling wines, so the familiar Moscato word is not a complete style description.
The dry version can pair a pronounced floral and grapey nose with a fresh finish, which may surprise someone whose only Moscato experience is a sweet sparkler. Other bottlings put the perfume into a different balance of sugar and bubbles. The complete wine name and the producer's description are more informative than choosing solely from the strength of the aroma.
For dry wine, try an aperitif plate, light poultry, fresh cheese or gently spiced food that leaves room for the perfume. A sweet expression needs its own dessert or cheese pairing rather than being used automatically as the same dinner white. Serve it cool, allowing enough warmth in the glass for the aroma to open without making the wine feel heavy.
BuyingCheck dry versus sweet and still versus sparkling on every Moscato Giallo. Trentino offers clearly described dry examples if you want perfume without dessert-wine sweetness.
