Adelaide Hills
Adelaide Hills is an elevated wine region southeast of Adelaide, known for Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir as well as a fresher style of Shiraz.
Altitude is the central clue to the Adelaide Hills. The terrain breaks into valleys and slopes that ripen at different speeds, allowing white grapes, Pinot Noir and Shiraz to coexist within one origin. Sauvignon Blanc is especially visible, while Chardonnay and Pinot Noir supply both still wines and sparkling bases.
The region should not be read as uniformly cold. Aspect and elevation matter, and some warmer slopes can ripen later varieties. For a practical comparison, its Shiraz commonly offers a more peppery and restrained direction than the broad stereotype of warm-climate Australian Shiraz.
