Leyda
Denomination of OriginChile
Leyda is a coastal Chilean wine area within San Antonio, known for Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
The ocean is the defining influence in Leyda. Morning fog and sea air keep the growing season cool, while rolling hills offer different exposures. The result is a strong regional emphasis on varieties that can ripen with freshness: Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are the most useful names to recognise.
Leyda is a more specific origin than the wider San Antonio Valley. Granite-derived soils are important, though vineyard geology and exposure still vary. For a useful comparison, put a coastal Sauvignon Blanc beside an inland Chilean white or compare Leyda Pinot Noir with one from Casablanca, keeping producer style in view.
