Franken

Wine regionGermany

Franken is a German wine region along the Main and its tributaries, especially associated with Silvaner and the distinctive Bocksbeutel bottle.

Silvaner is a defining local grape, with Müller-Thurgau and Bacchus also important. Dry styles are central to the region’s identity. The flattened, round-bellied Bocksbeutel is a familiar visual marker, although the bottle shape should not be confused with a grape or a guarantee of one flavour.

Explore Silvaner through different producers and vineyard names to understand the regional emphasis on place. Earlier-ripening white grapes play a substantial role here, making Franken a useful alternative to a Riesling-led view of Germany. The wine’s stated origin and style remain more informative than bottle shape alone.
