Similkameen Valley
Geographical IndicationCanada
Similkameen Valley is a dry, windy British Columbia wine region around Cawston and Keremeos, with diverse red and white varieties.
The valley lies west of the Okanagan and has its own geographical identity. Mountains shelter it from coastal storms, while persistent wind is a defining growing condition. Unlike a lake-centred vineyard area, its local climate is not shaped by the same pattern of cooling lake breezes.
Warmer exposures can support Cabernet varieties and Merlot, while cooler sites suit grapes such as Riesling and Gamay. Compare named vineyards where possible, since slope and exposure matter within the valley. Organic farming is prominent locally, but certification remains a claim to check for each producer and wine.
