Treixadura

White wine grapePortugal

The style profiled here is a dry, medium-bodied white Treixadura wine: apple, floral, soft, the Ribeiro grape. Typical alcohol is 12 to 13.5%. Serve it at 8 to 10 °C.

The grape

Treixadura is a white grape closely associated with Ribeiro in Galicia, with the name Trajadura used across the border in Portugal. It is often a blending grape, adding fruit and breadth alongside varieties that may provide a sharper acid line. The regional names can conceal the connection if you only search for one spelling.

A dry Ribeiro blend can give a useful introduction, while a varietal Treixadura makes its contribution easier to notice. The wine is not simply an Albariño under another name. Its texture and fruit character can make a blend feel more rounded, but the vineyard and its partners determine whether the finished bottle is light, substantial or especially aromatic.

Use a dry example with fish, seafood rice, poultry or vegetables, following the bottle's weight rather than a general rule that all coastal whites are very lean. Serve it cool and let it warm enough to show the fruit. When comparing Spanish and Portuguese bottles, check the blend proportions before attributing every difference to the change of country.

BuyingLook for Treixadura in Ribeiro or Trajadura in Portuguese selections. A varietal wine is the clearest introduction to the grape.
