Valdeorras

Protected Designation of OriginSpain

Valdeorras is an inland Galician appellation along the Sil, known for Godello whites and Mencía reds.

Godello is the clearest white-grape introduction, while Mencía leads many of the reds. The area lies in the northeastern part of Ourense, around a valley shaped by the Sil river. Other local varieties also have a place, including wines that bring several preferred grapes together rather than naming just one.

A Godello can range from direct and fresh to more textured, ageworthy styles, depending on the vineyard and cellar choices. Compare a white with a Mencía red if you want to understand the region beyond one fashionable grape. The appellation identifies origin, while the individual label explains the grape and wine style.
