Rías Baixas
Protected Designation of OriginSpain
Rías Baixas is Galicia’s Atlantic white-wine region, best known for Albariño.
The region has five subzones, and their distance from the sea is an important distinction. Val do Salnés is especially coastal, while Condado do Tea lies farther inland and is warmer. O Rosal follows the lower Miño towards Portugal; Soutomaior and Ribeira do Ulla complete the regional picture.
Albariño is the best-known grape, but the appellation also includes blends with other permitted varieties. A young bottle may emphasise citrus and freshness, while lees ageing or other cellar choices can add texture. Use the producer and subzone to explore differences rather than assuming every Albariño tastes identical.
