Constantia
Wine of Origin wardSouth Africa
Constantia is the historic Cape Peninsula wine area known for Sauvignon Blanc and a continuing tradition of sweet Muscat wine.
The mountains and surrounding coast put Constantia in a different growing environment from the hotter inland Cape districts. Sauvignon Blanc is the most immediately recognisable dry white, and the local wine route makes it a particular focus. The area’s long history also includes internationally famous sweet wines.
Constantia on a bottle does not mean dessert wine: many contemporary wines are dry whites or reds. If you are seeking the historic sweet style, check the wine’s own name and description. For a dry introduction, a Sauvignon Blanc gives a direct way to taste the maritime side of the Cape.
