Teran gives the district its best-known red-wine identity, while Vitovska is an important white grape. The plateau’s limestone, red earth and wind-exposed landscape provide a distinctive setting. Producers also make other wines, including blends and different interpretations of local varieties.

The Teran tradition should be understood through its specific origin and production identity, rather than assuming every similarly named wine around the Adriatic is identical. A Teran and a Vitovska from the same cellar provide a useful introduction to the district’s contrasting red and white traditions.
