Štajerska
Štajerska is a northeastern Slovenian wine district with a strong white-wine tradition, including Šipon, the local name for Furmint.
White varieties form a useful starting point: Šipon, Welschriesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Rhine Riesling are characteristic references. The district includes varied vineyard areas around Maribor, Haloze and Ljutomer-Ormož. Sparkling wines and local specialities add further breadth to its output.
Slovenian Štajerska and Austrian Steiermark share a historical regional name but belong to different national wine systems. Check the country and district when reading labels. Comparing Šipon with Sauvignon Blanc from a single producer offers an accessible introduction to the district’s grape diversity and aromatic white-wine identity.
