Prekmurje
Prekmurje is a small northeastern Slovenian wine district with vineyards in the Goričko hills near the Austrian and Hungarian borders.
The district belongs to the broader Podravje wine region, alongside Štajerska Slovenija. Goričko provides an important local geographical reference. Producers work with both white and red varieties, with Blaufränkisch, known locally as Modra Frankinja, offering a distinctive red-wine route into the area.
Prekmurje should be explored as its own origin rather than simply folded into the much larger neighbouring Styrian district. Compare a white wine with a Modra Frankinja from a local cellar to appreciate its range. The district name gives geographical context; vineyard and producer details add more precise information.
