Vipava Valley
Vipava Valley is a western Slovenian wine district with a particularly rich tradition of local white grapes, including Zelen and Pinela.
Zelen and Pinela provide two distinctive introductions to the valley. Their preservation is an important part of the local wine identity, alongside a broader range of varieties such as Rebula, Malvazija and Merlot. The district is therefore more varied than a single signature grape might suggest.
Compare Zelen and Pinela from the same producer where possible to appreciate differences in aroma and texture. Local white blends offer another route into the valley’s traditions. A local grape does not prescribe one cellar method, so check whether a wine is made for early drinking, matured in wood or fermented with skins.
