Marche
Marche is an Adriatic Italian region whose wine identity combines Verdicchio whites with red-wine origins such as Conero and Piceno.
Verdicchio has two particularly important homes: the Castelli di Jesi and the inland Matelica area. They have separate appellations and should be explored as distinct origins. The region also includes the red Conero denominations and local specialities such as Lacrima di Morro d’Alba and sparkling Vernaccia di Serrapetrona.
The region name is much broader than any one of these wines. Look for the grape and specific denomination when choosing a bottle, especially among the diverse whites and reds of the southern districts. A Verdicchio comparison provides a focused introduction, while local grapes reveal a much wider regional repertoire.
