Friuli-Venezia Giulia

Winegrowing regionItaly

Friuli-Venezia Giulia is a northeastern Italian wine region known for detailed whites, native grapes and a tradition of skin-contact winemaking.

Its hills and plains support different vineyard settings. Collio and Friuli Colli Orientali are important hillside names, while Friuli Grave occupies a broader gravelly landscape. Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc make useful white-wine introductions; Refosco and Schioppettino show that the region also has distinctive reds.

Not every Friulian white is an orange wine. Some producers ferment white grapes with their skins, while others make direct, fresh whites from the same varieties. Read the wine’s method and producer description. The regional name gives context, but the appellation and winemaking choices tell you much more about colour, texture and tannin.
