Croatian Uplands
The Croatian Uplands, or Bregovita Hrvatska, unite several hilly wine districts in central and northwestern Croatia.
The region comprises five smaller origins: Moslavina, Prigorje-Bilogora, Zagorje-Međimurje, Plešivica and Pokuplje. Their vineyards follow different hills, valleys and mountain foothills. The broad regional name therefore describes a collection of districts rather than one continuous vineyard or single grape tradition.
Use the smaller district name to orient a wine comparison. Plešivica’s vineyard amphitheatres, Moslavina’s gentle slopes and the northern hills of Zagorje-Međimurje offer distinct geographical settings. Local producers also highlight indigenous varieties and sparkling wines, making the region a useful inland counterpart to coastal Croatia.
