Dalmatia

Wine regionCroatia

Dalmatia is Croatia’s southern Adriatic wine region, combining coastal, island and inland vineyards with a wealth of local grapes.

Plavac Mali is a principal red reference, particularly on Pelješac and several islands. White-wine traditions include Pošip on Korčula, with other grapes contributing distinct local identities. The region’s island and mainland districts differ enough that a smaller origin is particularly useful when exploring its wines.

A comparison between a Pelješac red and a Korčula white provides an accessible introduction, but leaves much of Dalmatia still to discover. Seek out the grape and island or district name together. The broad coastal setting does not imply one blend, colour or style across the region.
