Neuquén
Wine provinceArgentina
Neuquén is a Patagonian wine province whose modern industry is closely associated with San Patricio del Chañar.
Neuquén’s principal wine story is newer than the old vineyards of neighbouring Río Negro. Modern plantings around San Patricio del Chañar helped establish the province as an important commercial wine origin. Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay all form part of its range.
Its southern latitude and persistent winds are important to the growing environment, but they do not make all the wines light or low in alcohol. Choose by grape and producer as well as by origin. A Neuquén bottle is a useful comparison with Mendoza when exploring how the same grape behaves farther south.
