Uco Valley
Uco Valley is a high-lying wine area southwest of Mendoza city, containing Tupungato, Tunuyán and San Carlos.
The Uco Valley’s appeal is the variation within it. Altitude, mountain exposure and alluvial soils can change substantially between sites, producing a range of Malbec styles as well as Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay. Gualtallary, Paraje Altamira and Los Chacayes are names to recognise on more specific vineyard-origin wines.
The valley name is broader than any one of its districts. It is useful for finding an elevated, mountain-influenced direction, but not every wine is light, austere or made without oak. Compare producers or named sites if you want to understand how altitude and soil interact rather than treating Uco as a single flavour.
