Toro
Protected Designation of OriginSpain
Toro is a Spanish wine appellation best known for reds made from Tinta de Toro, the local form of Tempranillo.
Tinta de Toro is the key red grape name, and Garnacha is another permitted route into the region’s reds. Old vines and sandy sites are an important part of its vineyard identity. The appellation also makes rosés and whites, so Toro should not be reduced to a single colour or one level of power.
Young wines and barrel-aged versions can feel very different. Crianza and Reserva wording adds ageing information, while a producer’s choices still determine extraction and texture. If you find a red too concentrated, try a younger or less heavily oaked example rather than assuming that every wine from Toro is made in the same style.
