Umbria
Umbria is a central Italian wine region with Sagrantino reds around Montefalco and important white-wine traditions centred on Orvieto and local grapes.
Montefalco Sagrantino is made from Sagrantino, while Montefalco Rosso is a separate appellation built mainly around Sangiovese with Sagrantino in the blend. The two names therefore describe different wines. Torgiano provides another established red-wine origin, including its separate Rosso Riserva denomination.
The region’s whites deserve equal attention. Orvieto brings together Trebbiano Toscano and Grechetto within its production rules, while Spoleto highlights Trebbiano Spoletino, a distinct variety. Reading the full name helps avoid confusing grapes with similar names and makes a comparison between Umbria’s white-wine districts more informative.
