Leithaberg
Wine regionAustria
Leithaberg is a Burgenland wine origin on the hills west of Lake Neusiedl, known for both white wines and Blaufränkisch reds.
Limestone and schist are central to the region’s account of its vineyards. Leithaberg DAC includes white and red wines, so the geographical name should not be read as a grape name. Blaufränkisch is the principal red reference, while white wines can draw on several established varieties.
The contrast between hillside vineyards and the nearby lake plain makes this a useful place to explore Burgenland beyond a single regional stereotype. Compare a white with a red from the same grower, then look for named vineyard bottlings. Soil describes the site; it does not prescribe an identical flavour for every wine.
